5Great little GPS especially for the price.  Nov 17, 2009
We have a pair of these TomTom's and a Garmin Streetpilot 330 GPS. We only use the TomTom's. The voice is far more pleasant to listen to than the Garmin and the directions are far more direct. It is interesting to note that on long-distance trips, both TomTom's give slightly different travel routes from each other. We bought them about 6 months apart from each other and even though we update both regularly, it still happens.

The Garmin does beat the TomTom in only one appreciable way and that's in looking up businesses. Garmin definitely can find more businesses than the TomTom and not just mom and pop stores, but big chain stores too like Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, etc.

Overall we're very pleased with both and should one die, we will definitely shop TomTom again.

3Almost worth the $100  Nov 16, 2009
I bought this to blow off a gift card to a crappy store. They had it on sale for $99 and its the only thing I could find that sparked my interest. So I expected it to be cheap, slow and non responsive. I opened it up and found the opposite. It picked up a GPS fix in 2 minutes and I could navigate and browse through the device nicely. So for a couple days I thought it was a awesome deal. But then I noticed a few streets were missing that should have been added to any map over 2 years ago. I thought no big deal I just need to plug it in the computer and let it receive some updates. I plugged it in and installed the software and got a few software updates. Then a message popped up and said " your maps are out of date! Download new updated maps of your area for only $79.99." Most other brands offer first time update for free and then after that is a one time fee for the life of the unit. Now with my TomTom I know I can almost get there. So if your one of those people who don't mind pulling out the credit card for stupid occasional fee's like this then it is a great unit.

5Pleased with the Tom Tom GPS  Oct 17, 2009
I have had other makes of GPS receivers and feel the Tom Tom's are much more accurate and easier to use than the other brands I have had. I am very pleased with this Tom Tom.

1Piece of junk, horrible warranty service  Oct 05, 2009
TomTom is without any doubt the WORSE GPS unit/ Customer service / Warranty service of ANY GPS manufacturer.

My first TomTom the on/off switch was so flimsy it would turn the unit on by itself while it was sitting in the car or on a desk. TomTom finally replaced that one under warranty, but the reconditioned repair they sent runs out of battery power after 45 minutes without being plugged in. When turned off fully charged, the battery will be completely dead within a week WITHOUT the unit being turned on.

I called TomTom customer service, and their warranty department tells me they WILL NOT WARRANTY REPLACE a GPS unit that runs at least 30 minutes under battery power. Also, they told me it was normal for their GPS units to run the battery down within a week WHILE TURNED OFF, and will only replace it under warranty if the battery dies completely within 2-3 days while the unit is turned off.

To recap, TomTom warranty says a fully charged battery only lasts 30 minutes, and a fully charged battery will die after 2-3 days with the TomTom GPS TURNED OFF.

So, if you want to be like me and have a hundred dollar paperweight after purchasing it only 10 months ago, buy this GPS for yourself, or even as a gift! Otherwise, I would avoid this manufacturers products entirely.

p.s. TomTom customer service, if you are reading this, my case number for the facts in this review is 091006-000350. I would not want anyone to think I was making any of this up.

I bought this for my mom as a birthday present. Everything about it was great. The item even arrived 1 day early. Wonderful overall experience.
